Zarif says ‘saddened by terrorist attacks on Sri Lankan worshippers’

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday that he was “terribly saddened by terrorist attacks on Sri Lankan worshippers during Easter.”

In a post on his twitter account, Zarif said he offers “condolences to friendly government and people of Sri Lanka.”

The chief diplomat reiterated on Iran’s long-held position that terrorism must be “confronted globally”.

“Terrorism is a global menace with no religion: it must be condemned and confronted globally.”

Police have said at least 207 people have been killed and 450 hurt in explosions at churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.
